Colchester Half Marathon
February 24 @ 10:00 am - 2:00 pm
The 2024 Colchester Half Marathon will be held on Saturday, February 24th, 2024, in Colchester, Connecticut. As part of the Hartford Track Club’s Winter Race Series, it marks its 31st annual running, drawing numerous participants despite often facing wintry conditions with temperatures in the 30s, including a history of ice, snow, and sleet.
The 13.1 mile hilly course showcases three water and Gatorade stations, chip timing, mile signs, and vigilant volunteers. Runners traverse hills, dirt roads with plenty of rural scenery with cows, which creates a challenging, yet scenic route. The race follows a USA Track & Field-certified loop course, commencing and concluding at Bacon Academy on Norwich Avenue, with the scheduled race starting at 10:00 AM ET.
The course includes paved country roads along Norwich, Windham Avenue, Goshen Hill Road, and McCall Road. A cautionary note is sounded for a three-mile stretch on dirt roads, emphasizing careful navigation in icy or snowy conditions. The concluding miles guide runners along Roger Foot Road back to Norwich Avenue, concluding the race at Bacon Academy High School. Post-race, participants are invited to a carbo re-load party at the Bacon Academy cafeteria, where hearty food, non-alcoholic beverages, and camaraderie await, with a special welcome to volunteers.
