Athens Ohio Marathon and Half Marathon

The 2024 Athens Ohio Marathon and Half Marathon will be held on Sunday, April 14th 2024 in Athens Ohio. The race starts at 8:00 a.m. and features a scenic route for runners and walkers.

The Athen’s marathon is known as the state’s longest consecutive running marathon, that starts in uptown Athens, and stays in the valley making it a fast, fairly flat course despite Athens being a hilly town.  The race runs through Athens, along the Hockhocking Adena Bikeway, alongside the beautiful Ohio University campus before finishing at Ohio University’s Pruitt Field on the track.

This is a great race to use as a Boston Qualifier!  It is a USATF certified race and weather in April is usually perfect for running making it a great choice for a Spring marathon, or half marathon.

2024 Race Details

The marathon and half marathon starts together at 8:00am at the corner of South College Street and East Union Street.  There is a 6 hour course time limit so all runners and walkers must be off the course by 2:00pm.

Packet Pick-up Location is at Ohio Valley Running Company located at 20 Station Street, Athens, Ohio 45701.

Packets can be picked up on Saturday April 13th, 2024 from 2:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. or before the race on Sunday April 14th, 2024 from 6:00 a.m. to 7:15 a.m.  It is highly encouraged that runners pick up their race packets on Saturday to avoid last minute crowds.

Should you want to change race distances, you may do so prior to the race. You will also be allowed to pick up packets for other runners with a signature.

Aid Stations

Water and Gatorade will be located at aid stations throughout the course. Bananas and Oranges will be available on the second half of the course. Please note, that no gels will be handed out, so if you prefer to use gels for fueling, you will need to being your own.

Parking

The best place I found to park for the race is around the finish area on campus. Many of the lots are free and the parking lots are a short walk 5-10 minute from the starting line. You will appreciate parking near the finish line when the race is over.

Registration Information

To register, visit the Athens Ohio marathon and half marathon official website. Registration fees for the marathon range from $40 to $100 depending on when you sign up. The early you register, the cheaper it is. The half marathon registration fees range from $30-90.
