In this episode, I share how you can establish strong, healthy habits that will improve your running and help you get your workouts in.
Habits can make or break your progress as a runner. If you have great habits, you’ll most likely see great progress. Today, I share the process behind how habits are established and practical tips to help you make running as routine as brushing your teeth.
Over and over again, science has proven that all habits go through 3 stages to become common practice.
In the book, The Power of Habit: Why We Do What We Do in Life and Business by Charles Duhigg, these three steps are covered in great detail.
The three stages of habit formation are:
Stage 1: Reminder (trigger to action)Stage 2: Routine (the action)
Stage 3: Reward (positive re-enforcement)
In the podcast, with each stage, I share actionable items that you can use to help you develop positive running habits.
I also provide several other tips that help re-enforce positive behaviors.
Alcoholics Anonymous is a typical example of an addiction fighting organization, where they’ve found that members have incredible success in refraining from addictive behaviors when engaging in accountability.
Just like bad habits, the establishment of building a great running habit or living a healthier lifestyle is more successful when a person establishes accountability with others to help during both the habit forming and the maintenance stage.
In this episode, I reemphasize how RunBuzz is creating a community around accountability and support.
